Short answer

The Wegovy pill is a once-daily oral form of semaglutide that the FDA approved in December 2025 for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related condition. It is the same active ingredient as injectable Wegovy and as Rybelsus (the diabetes tablet), but at a higher strength for obesity. In its phase 3 trial, average weight loss over 64 weeks was about 16.6% versus 2.7% on placebo. Side effects follow the GLP-1 pattern — mainly nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation — and the pill carries the same semaglutide label warnings. Like Rybelsus, it has fasting-style administration instructions; follow the label and prescriber. Peptide Confessions does not publish dosing, timing, injection or sourcing guidance.

Pill vs injection vs other pills

Novo Nordisk describes the weight loss as similar to injectable Wegovy, but there is no head-to-head trial. The pill also carries Wegovy's cardiovascular risk-reduction indication. Its main practical difference is the daily routine: it must be taken on an empty stomach with a small sip of water, and you have to wait before eating, drinking or taking other pills. Foundayo has no such rules. Comparison: all GLP-1 pills, Foundayo vs Wegovy pill. Not available in Canada: Wegovy pill in Canada.

Community Q&A

When was the Wegovy pill approved?
The FDA approved it on December 22, 2025, and it launched in the US in January 2026.
What are the Wegovy pill's side effects?
Mainly nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, peaking during dose escalation. In OASIS 4, 74% had a GI side effect vs 42% on placebo; few stopped because of them.
Is the Wegovy pill available in Canada?
Not as of October 15, 2026.
Is there a Wegovy pill?
Yes. The FDA approved an oral semaglutide tablet under the Wegovy brand for weight management in December 2025.
Is the Wegovy pill the same as Rybelsus?
Same molecule (semaglutide). Rybelsus is labelled for type 2 diabetes; the Wegovy pill is a higher-strength tablet labelled for weight management.
Does the Wegovy pill work as well as the injection?
Trial averages were broadly similar in magnitude, but they come from separate trials. A clinician can explain which form suits an individual.
Does this page give dosing advice?
Peptide Confessions does not publish dosing, timing, injection or sourcing guidance.
Is the Wegovy pill as effective as the injection?
Average weight loss in the pill's trial was somewhat lower than in the injection's trials, though the trials were not head-to-head. Individual results vary.
Why do people stop Wegovy?
Common reasons are gastrointestinal side effects, access problems and reaching a goal. Trials show most people regain weight after stopping.
