GLP-1 Pills: Which Oral Options Exist

GLP-1 pills explained: oral semaglutide (Rybelsus, Wegovy pill) and orforglipron (Foundayo) — differences, approvals and side effects. Not medical advice.

Short answer

Three oral GLP-1 products matter in the US. Rybelsus is oral semaglutide approved for type 2 diabetes since 2019. The Wegovy pill is higher-strength oral semaglutide approved for weight management in December 2025. Foundayo (orforglipron, Eli Lilly) is a non-peptide small-molecule GLP-1 agonist approved in 2026 for weight management; unlike oral semaglutide it has no food or water timing restrictions. There is no tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) pill and no Ozempic pill — Ozempic is an injection. All share the GLP-1 gastrointestinal side-effect class. Peptide Confessions does not publish dosing, timing, injection or sourcing guidance.

Why pills are harder to make than injections

Semaglutide is a peptide, so stomach acid and enzymes destroy most of it. Rybelsus and the Wegovy pill use an absorption enhancer (SNAC) and still need an empty stomach and strict timing; only a small fraction is absorbed, which is why tablet strengths are much higher than injection strengths. Orforglipron was designed from the start as a small molecule that survives digestion, so it has no food rules. For the hormone basics see what is GLP-1?.

Side effects

Same class as injections: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, mostly during dose escalation. In OASIS 4, nausea affected about 47% on the Wegovy pill vs 19% on placebo; in ATTAIN-1, about 34% on the highest Foundayo dose vs 10%. Labels carry the same serious-risk warnings (pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney injury from dehydration, aspiration under anaesthesia). Details: GLP-1 side effects and Foundayo side effects.

What users report here

No published confession is tagged to a GLP-1 pill yet. Injection users' stories are on the semaglutide and tirzepatide hubs. Pills don't remove the regain problem: users who stop injections describe appetite returning quickly (#87).

Community Q&A

Which GLP-1 pill works best for weight loss?
There's no head-to-head trial. In separate trials the Wegovy pill produced about 13.6% average loss and Foundayo about 11% (all participants), but trial designs differ.
Are GLP-1 pills available in Canada?
Rybelsus is authorized for type 2 diabetes. The Wegovy pill and Foundayo were not authorized in Canada as of October 15, 2026.
Is there an Ozempic pill?
No. Ozempic is an injection. The pill forms of semaglutide are Rybelsus (diabetes) and the Wegovy pill (weight management).
Is there a tirzepatide pill?
Not approved. Tirzepatide is available as injections (Mounjaro, Zepbound).
What is the difference between the Wegovy pill and Foundayo?
The Wegovy pill is oral semaglutide, a peptide with fasting instructions. Foundayo is orforglipron, a small molecule without food restrictions.
Does this page give dosing advice?
Peptide Confessions does not publish dosing, timing, injection or sourcing guidance.
Can you buy GLP-1 pills over the counter?
No. GLP-1 pills such as Rybelsus, the Wegovy pill and Foundayo are prescription-only. Over-the-counter "GLP-1" supplements do not contain GLP-1 drugs.
What are the disadvantages of oral semaglutide?
It has strict label instructions about taking it on an empty stomach, causes the same gastrointestinal side effects as injections, and absorbs only a small fraction of each tablet.
