Short answer
Mazdutide (Innovent, licensed from Eli Lilly) is a weekly injectable dual agonist of GLP-1 and glucagon receptors. It received approval in China for weight management and type 2 diabetes; it is not FDA-approved. Glucagon-receptor activity is studied for liver fat and energy expenditure. Reported side effects are mainly gastrointestinal, similar to other incretin drugs. Closest US-relevant comparator in development: survodutide. How glucagon adds to GLP-1
GLP-1 reduces appetite; glucagon-receptor activity may raise energy expenditure and reduce liver fat. That is the rationale shared by mazdutide, survodutide and the triple agonist retatrutide. Side effects in trials were mainly nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting, plus a rise in heart rate seen across this class. Compare mazdutide vs retatrutide.

Community Q&A
- How much weight loss does mazdutide cause?
- In GLORY-1, Chinese adults lost about 12.0% to 14.8% of body weight on average over 48 weeks depending on dose, versus 0.5% on placebo.
- Where is mazdutide approved?
- China, for weight management (June 2025) and type 2 diabetes (September 2025). It is not approved in the US or Canada.
- Is mazdutide approved in the US?
- No. Its approvals have been in China.
- Is mazdutide the same as survodutide?
- No. Both are GLP-1/glucagon dual agonists, but they are different molecules from different companies.
- Does this page give dosing advice?
- Peptide Confessions does not publish dosing, timing, injection or sourcing guidance.
