Short answer
Trulicity is dulaglutide; Ozempic is semaglutide. Both are weekly injectable GLP-1 receptor agonists used in type 2 diabetes care. They are different molecules with overlapping gastrointestinal side-effect classes. This page does not rank which is better. Peptide Confessions does not publish dosing, timing, injection or sourcing guidance.
Side by side

| Typical schedule class | Weekly injection | Weekly injection |
| Weight-focused sibling brand | Not the same as Wegovy | Wegovy (semaglutide) |
Head-to-head trial: SUSTAIN 7
40-week open-label trial in adults with type 2 diabetes on metformin, comparing the higher strengths of each drug. Last reviewed October 15, 2026.
| Outcome | Ozempic (semaglutide) | Trulicity (dulaglutide) |
|---|---|---|
| HbA1c reduction | 1.8 points | 1.4 points |
| Average weight loss | 6.5 kg | 3.0 kg |
| GI side effects | About 44% | Somewhat lower |
Other differences
Both are weekly pens with the same boxed thyroid C-cell tumour warning and GLP-1 class risks (pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, dehydration from GI effects). Both have cardiovascular outcome trials showing fewer major heart events in people with type 2 diabetes and heart risk (REWIND for dulaglutide, SUSTAIN 6 for semaglutide). Semaglutide also comes as a weight-management brand (Wegovy) and a tablet (oral semaglutide); dulaglutide has no weight-management brand. Switching between them is a prescriber decision.
What users report here
Most anonymous GLP-1 files on this site tag semaglutide/Ozempic or tirzepatide brands. Dulaglutide/Trulicity mentions are thinner. See Ozempic side effects and the semaglutide side-effects report.
