Mounjaro Weight Loss: Labels, Trials and User Reports

Mounjaro weight loss: tirzepatide for type 2 diabetes, how it relates to Zepbound, trial themes and anonymous user reports. Not medical advice.

Short answer

Mounjaro is tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. Weight change is a major effect in trials and in user stories, but the US chronic weight-management brand for tirzepatide is Zepbound. Whether Mounjaro is used when weight is the goal depends on local labels, indication and a clinician's judgment — this page does not prescribe it. Peptide Confessions does not publish dosing, timing, injection or sourcing guidance.

How much weight people lost in trials

Averages at the highest tested dose; individual results vary. Last reviewed October 15, 2026.

TrialWhoAverage weight change
SURPASS-2 (40 weeks)Type 2 diabetes; Mounjaro vs Ozempic-strength semaglutideAbout 11 kg vs about 6 kg
SURMOUNT-2 (72 weeks)Type 2 diabetes with obesityAbout 15% vs about 3% on placebo
SURMOUNT-1 (72 weeks)Obesity without diabetes (Zepbound label)About 21% vs about 3%

Why people with diabetes lose less

Across GLP-1 trials, people with type 2 diabetes lose less weight on average than people without it, which is why Mounjaro's diabetes trials show smaller percentages than Zepbound's weight trials of the same molecule. Weight usually falls for about a year before levelling off, and stopping leads to regain in most people.

Mounjaro vs Zepbound for weight

Same active ingredient. Different brands and labelled uses. Weight-focused twin: Zepbound weight loss. Side effects: Mounjaro side effects / Zepbound side effects. Versus semaglutide brands: Mounjaro vs Ozempic.

What anonymous users describe

#450 lost about 20 kg on Mounjaro with "almost no serious problems", but restarting later brought acidic burps and constant diarrhoea. #647 describes losing 80 lb and also losing the urge to impulse-buy, while #637 found a new shopping habit. #104 lost all desire to drink alcohol.

#596 lost 22 kg, found a lump in their neck, stopped abruptly and describes a binge three nights later. A new neck lump on a GLP-1 should be checked promptly. Stories, not rates.

What users report
