Canada \u00b7 Orforglipron

Orforglipron (Foundayo) in Canada: approval status and what's next.

Orforglipron is Eli Lilly's once-daily GLP-1 pill, sold in the US as Foundayo. Canadians search for it because it is a pill with no food or water timing rules. The short answer: it is not approved in Canada yet, but the Canadian review is underway. Here are the official dates.

Last reviewed October 15, 2026against Health Canada's Drug Product Database and CDA-AMC and FDA records.

Dates from the CDA-AMC project page and BC's drug information sheet. The requested Canadian indication matches the US one: adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes or sleep apnea.

What the main trial showed

In ATTAIN-1 (New England Journal of Medicine), 3,127 adults with obesity and without diabetes took orforglipron or placebo for 72 weeks:

  • Average weight change was −7.5% to −11.2% across the three orforglipron doses, versus −2.1% with placebo.
  • On the highest dose, 54.6% lost at least 10% of their body weight, versus 12.9% on placebo.
  • The most common side effects were gastrointestinal and mostly mild to moderate; 5.3% to 10.3% stopped because of adverse events, versus 2.7% on placebo.

Comparing across separate trials is unreliable, but average loss was lower than in the main trials of Wegovy and Zepbound. Its draw is a daily pill without fasting rules. A prescriber can explain trade-offs once it is available here.

What you can get in Canada now

  • Wegovy and its generic equivalent, and Zepbound, are authorized weekly injections for weight management.
  • Rybelsus is an authorized oral semaglutide, for type 2 diabetes only. The Wegovy pill is not authorized in Canada.
  • Unauthorized “research” GLP-1s are not a legal shortcut: see Health Canada's April 2026 advisory.

Frequently asked questions

Is Foundayo (orforglipron) approved in Canada?
No, not as of October 15, 2026. Foundayo has no Drug Identification Number in Health Canada's Drug Product Database, so Canadian pharmacies can't dispense it.
When will orforglipron be available in Canada?
No date has been announced. Canada's Drug Agency (CDA-AMC) began a reimbursement review on June 26, 2026, before Health Canada approval, with its expert committee meeting set for October 28, 2026 and a draft recommendation scheduled for November 19, 2026. Approval and public coverage are separate decisions.
Is orforglipron a peptide?
No. Orforglipron is a small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist taken as a daily pill. Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus contain semaglutide, which is a peptide.
Is orforglipron approved in the US?
Yes. The FDA approved it as Foundayo on April 1, 2026 for adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.
Is it legal to order Foundayo into Canada?
Until Health Canada authorizes it, any 'orforglipron' sold to Canadians isn't an authorized Canadian product. We don't list sources. Authorized GLP-1 options in Canada need a prescription.
Is orforglipron the same as retatrutide?
No. Retatrutide is a different, injectable investigational drug that is not approved anywhere. See our retatrutide page.
